ARZÉ
This is a film that, with ease and humour, touches upon serious themes. Two women, a single mother, Arzé and her sister, have found comfort in each other and in the boy they are raising. They bake pies and deliver them to their customers by scooter. When that scooter disappears, Arze embarks on a search across various neighbourhoods of Beirut, each a world of its own with its unique microculture, accent, and customs. In every neighbourhood, she changes her accent and, since she needs help, pretends to be from that part of the city to find the scooter. The film was shot in just two days across 21 locations in Beirut. Although it tells an almost local story, the director says that anyone can relate to it because at its heart lie strong family bonds between sisters, parents, and children, which are universal everywhere in the world.
