SYNOPSIS

1944, in Vermiglio, a mountain village where the war is a distant but omnipresent horizon, the arrival of Pietro, a soldier escaping the war, disrupts the dynamics of the local schoolmaster’s large family, changing them forever. The love between Pietro and Lucia, the eldest daughter, leads to their marriage and an unexpected destiny.

DIRECTOR’S BIOGRAPHY

Maura Delpero was born in Bolzano, Italy. After studying literature at the University of Bologna and a brief period at Sorbonne University, she studied film at the Professional Training Center of SICA in Buenos Aires. Delpero’s first two films were documentaries Teachers (2008) and Nadia and Sveta (2012). Maura’s feature film debut Maternal (2019) was inspired by Delpero’s experiences as a teacher in Argentine “hogars”, homes for teenage mothers often administered by nuns. She was awarded the 2020 Women in Motion Young Talent Award at the Cannes Film Festival. Her second feature film is the World War II drama The Mountain Bride. Retitled Vermiglio, the film debuted at the 81st Venice International Film Festival in 2024, where it won the Grand Jury Prize.
