YOUNG AUDIENCE AWARD / YAA

Free Zone Film Festival has once again been selected as a partner for the European Film Academy Young Audience Award.

This year’s Young Audience Film Day will be held on 3rd of November at 4:00 PM at Dvorana Kulturnog centra Beograda.

The screening of last year’s YAA winner, Scrapper by Charlotte Reagan, will simultaneously take place in cinemas across more than 30 European countries. Afterwards, young members of the European Film Club will host a live-streamed Q&A session with the author from Lucerne.

Scrapper tells the story of a 12-year-old dreamer Georgie (Lola Campbell), who, after her mother’s death, lives all alone in their flat in London. She steals bicycles for a living with her friend Ali (Alin Uzun) and convinces social services that her uncle lives with her. Everything is running smoothly until Jason (Harris Dickinson) shows up out of the blue, claiming to be her father – a man Georgie hasn’t seen in so long that she doesn’t remember him.

With him being absent, messy and a terrible cook, Georgie perceives him to be a lousy father and hence wonders why he is taking interest in her all of a sudden, especially now that she is doing so well on her own.

During the event on November 3rd, the three nominated films competing for this year’s Young Audience Award of the European Film Academy will be revealed, and the audience will have the opportunity to apply to join the jury made up of 99 young people who will select the winning film.

The Young Audience Award of the European Film Academy is a distinguished film event for children between 12 to 14 years of age. Its goal is to draw in the youth towards European stories, individuals, culture and society, to create bridges for the exchange of their opinions, bring attention to important political matters and encourage the sense of community, understanding and tolerance.

Each year, three nominated films are chosen – two fiction and one documentary – by a committee composed of film experts together with a group of teenagers from Europe.

The Young Audience Award is organised by European Film Academy (EFA), supported by one of the most significant film funds – Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung / MDM and Creative Europe MEDIA.

Free Zone Junior organises the Young Audience Award Ceremony as a part of Free Zone Film Festival, supported by Film Centre Serbia.
