FROM HILDE WITH LOVE
In Berlin, in 1942, Hilde is a member of an anti-Nazi group. She falls in love with another member, Hans. The two spend the summer together until they are caught by the Gestapo. Hilde is taken to prison in the sixth month of her pregnancy. Based on a true story. The lead role is played by Liv Lisa Fries, the star of the hit series Babylon Berlin.
Director and screenwriter Andreas Dresen, who won awards at Cannes, Berlin and Karlovy Vary, is one of Germany’s most admired directors.
Born in 1963 in Gera, East Germany, he is known for films that often focus on the experiences of East German citizens, his intimate and realistic portrayal of everyday life, and his willingness to tackle difficult subjects like love and sexuality in old age.
His specific directing style is based on improvisation, which results in extraordinary acting accomplishments and a feeling of almost documentary-like realism.
In the early ’80s, he began working in theatre and making short films. After studying directing at the Konrad Wolf Academy of Film and Television, he became a freelance director in 1992, achieving international acclaim with films such as Halbe Treppe (Grillpoint) – awarded Jury Grand Prix at Berlin in 2002, and Wolke 9 (Cloud 9) – awarded Coup de Coeur by Un Certain Regard Jury at Cannes in 2008. His film Stopped on Track won the Un Certain Regard Award in 2011. His most successful film to date is Gundermann (2018), a biopic about the East German singer-songwriter Gerhard Gundermann.
His film Rabiye Kurnaz vs. George W. Bush was screened at the Free Zone Film Festival in 2022.
In addition to his work in film, television, and opera, Dresen also holds a professorship in film acting at HMT Rostock.
