Hazal’s biggest dream is to be given a chance at a future outside of her parents’ bakery. For her 18th birthday, she wants to escape the everyday grind and party with her friends in Berlin. But a fatal incident changes everything, and Hazal is forced to flee to Turkey, a country unknown to her. There, she must survive on her own, no matter the cost.
Asli Özarslan was born in Berlin and studied at the University of Bayreuth and the Université Sorbonne IV in Paris. This was followed by editorial work for 3sat Kulturzeit, ZDF, and ARD foreign studio Warsaw. From 2012-2017 she studied documentary film directing at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. Insel 36 (2014) and her graduation film Dil Leyla (2016) won international and national awards. Her debut feature film project Ellbogen (2024) had its world premiere at the 74th Berlinale in the Generation section.
