Emmy-nominated British film-maker James Erskine’s work stretches across drama and documentary for the big screen and small. Working as a director, writer and producer, James has been the guiding voice behind a number of award-winning films, as well as working extensively in television.
With a background directing TV dramas such as Robin Hood and Torchwood, James went on to direct and write the 2015 comedy feature film Shooting For Socrates, as well as the 2017 indie thriller The White Room.
His cinema documentaries included Billie (2019), the hit sports documentary Sachin: A Billion Dreams (2017), grossing over $12m worldwide, 2018’s The Ice King, 2013’s The Battle of The Sexes (which inspired the Hollywood movie of the same name), and big screen sports docs One Night In Turin (2010), Pantani: The Accidental Death of a Cyclist (2014) and The End of The Storm (2020). James recently shot Skandal! Bringing Down Wirecard, a thriller documentary on one of the greatest financial crimes ever committed.
His television documentary work includes the Amazon Originals series Le Mans: Racing Is Everything (2017), which he created, produced and directed, and the Humanitas-prize winning This Is Football (2019).
With a fascination for true stories, James’s work has been exhibited at major film festivals including Telluride, Sundance and Toronto, and has been distributed theatrically in more than 50 countries, and on a wide range of streaming and broadcast platforms.
