Critics argue that the quote attributed to Julius Caesar for military achievements in this social satire suggests that the privilege of winning is reserved only for the wealthy. The Maynard family and their children lead an almost perfect billionaire lifestyle. Amon is a passionate hunter, but, out of respect for the animals, he doesn’t shoot them in large numbers. While the butler carries his rifle, his new desired prey becomes a cyclist on whose bicycle he rides down the mountain after the hunt, happily screaming. The director mentioned that due to a lack of funding, it took nine years to complete the film because potential financiers wanted Amon to transform and become a better person, which he disagreed with.
Daniel Hoesl was born in 1982 and studied in Salzburg and Prague. He has worked as an assistant director for Ulrich Seidl, Michael Sturminer, and many more. His first feature film Soldier Jane (Soldate Jeannette) had its world premiere in the competition of the Sundance Film Festival and was awarded the Tiger Award in Rotterdam, in 2013. In 2016 his second feature film WiNWiN also had its premiere in Rotterdam. All his films have been shown at festivals on all continents and distributed to cinema and TV in many territories. His themes oscillate around the value as well as the price of money. He received the Outstanding Artist Award for a feature film of the Austrian Federal Chancellery in 2018.
Julia Niemann studied philosophy and pursued a career in writing. She worked as a journalist for Der Standard, before switching to a film career. She was an assistant director on the feature film WiNWiN.
